One of Takefumi Hanai, Submission Arts Wrestling and Combat Wrestling champion. Won the All-Japan Combat Wrestling tournament in, I believe, less than full minute of mat time or something crazy like that. It might have been under 2 minutes? I believe the final was 22 seconds. Its been a while since I read the article. But I know it didn't take him long to get gold that day.
This one is of Noboru Asahi, famed trainer, one of the original Shooto participants. Not much is seen of 1980's MMA and much of what is said of it does it a disservice; I kind of wanted to set the record straight by displaying how high a skill level the original Shooto participants displayed. Asahi was an amateur wrestling champion and a student of Satoru Sayama, so you could say he is a grand-student of Karl Gotch. I have learned a ton from his instructional material and I don't think I am alone.
