The shitty thing is this might of put back CACC a bit if Neil Melanson gets demonised as bad as I think he's going to. Even if Gokor and Gene come out and back him up if it blows up. This is probably one of the biggest gaffes I've seen someone do in the combat sports community outside of fighting, murder etc etc etc (the illegal shit) I know you may think I'm using hyperbole but bear with me on this.
Whether or not Neil intended to he pretty much swatted at the wasp's nest. No amount of explanation etc etc will undo that image of randy getting a black belt in what they all thought was BJJ. Poorly thought through, to think that this wouldn't of happened is ludicrous on everyone's part. They dug this hole for themselves with constant references to Jiu Jitsu etc and now when they go ahead and explain that this is actually neil's catch based system everyone who is an ignorant dumb ass (which is about 90% of mma fans) and really really jingoistic BJJ guys are going to all be confused and even more angry because they've been using their word to describe what they've been doing when it wasn't.
Hopefully it'll blow over, but I think for a lot of BJJ people it'll stick in their head if they all come to think that Neil is a fraud or a charleton and Neil might get the Tony Cecchine treatment from the BJJ community.

I think what amuses me is how BJJ guys care more about this then CACC guys. I mean, I personally have no formal training in CACC, I'm an enthusiast who's happy to think of himself as a novice until further notice, but the Blackbelt does nothing to legitimise Couture or Catch Wrestling since Couture is already legit, and Catch to those with an open mind is already legit.
Let's think about this logically and objectively. If the BJJ community wants to call Melanson a fraud and be given a Cecchine style of treatment, they're indirectly calling Randy Couture, Gray Maynard, Chael Sonnen, Jake Ellenberger, and the Xtreme Couture team that includes Martin Kampmann, Tyson Griffin, Jonny Hendrix, Jay Hieron etc idiots, as if fighters with their experience couldn't sniff out a bullshit artist when it comes to grappling for MMA, or wrestling based submission grappling. Melanson's been with them for over a year, you'd think a con would be hard to pull off for that long.
Unfortunately I think there are some in the BJJ community who are that deluded, and know better about a man they've never met or trained with, then the people who have and who do. Let's wait and see if Melanson produces more guys that start owning in sub wrestling competition. Of course, if that happens, it'll be because they "used BJJ to defeat BJJ" lol.

I may of been a bit too doom and gloom but I never will underestimate the BJJ community and how bitter they can be.

I'm waiting for the day some jerk-off tries to dojo storm Xtreme Couture. It will be priceless.
