Still train guard. If anything, in MMA, you may get knocked on your ass or you may end up against someone who's got better takedowns then you have defense for it.
But, use the guard to get back to your feet or get on top. My perspective is unless they give something to you and you spot an opening, Stand, Sweep and Submit in that order.
But yes the turtle is completely underutilised in terms of defensive and transitional strategy.

Fantastic find. It's wrestling so it has its place. Thank you.

Yeah I listened to this the other day. He's actually got back to me and did my interview, and covers a lot of similar topics.

Yeah I saw this. Not sure how much it covers other than various setups to catch it with.

He's pretty awesome. These are moves he did for his "4 catch wrestling moves" video on youtube.

Yeah, Nutty. I'm in the process of writing an article on the positives I feel could come of this since there's enough posting negatives.

The bears also go into an over-under neutral clinch.

I was told he would complete it and send it back to me by the end of this week ... nothing yet.

I really don't like seeing videos like this for obvious reasons. What I will say is it's interesting how natural the bear is in its movements. It's either trying to breakdown the kid from the back or it's trying to pin the kid from cross body.
Wrestling is arguably part of animal DNA at least when it comes to exerting dominance in an Alpha leader scenario where going to your back is a sign of submissiveness.
It's also why submission grappling at the highest levels prefer the use of a top game even from Jiujitsu circles. It's why BJJ players are fighting for takedowns. It's why there's been so much focus on sweeps in the last few years especially in the development of X Guard and Deep Half Guard. It's why Roger Gracie goes for the Cross Choke from Mount, or the RNC from behind.
Just some musings for you.

I've just re-submitted my interview to Neil Melanson after his PR agent (I think) contacted me today, so hopefully I can get some in depth answers that will settle some things. Although I've a feeling GCT would argue the world orbits the sun if he so desired.

I used to get into arguments online but I'll let other people do it from now on. It's too energy consuming and detracts what I want to discuss: history, philosophy and technique.

Actually it benefits us if they underestimate us. Makes it all the more sweeter when we own them.

True that.
If you broke it down by position, here's what I'd recommend as a foundation:
Inside open guard (Saturday Night Ride) - Stopper Toe Hold Inside Half-Guard (Top Leg Scissors) - DWL with Carney Stretch, Head Wrap neck crank / reverse arm triangle. Cross Body Side Control - DWL, Keylock, Half Nelson flat crank, Half Nelson chin hook Knee Mount (Belly) - low Armpit ride with face push, low armpit ride with arm bar. Lateral Press (North-South) - TWL with sitout, Reverse Guillotine (Monson Choke) Head & Arm (Scarfhold, Kesagatame) - Pillow V-Arm Lock, straight arm lock, head & arm choke (arm triangle variation) Top Saddle (Mount) - Spread Eagle, Fist Choke, Lemon Crusher, V-Arm Lock (TWL). Referee's Position (traditional back control) - Burns Hammerlock, Half Nelson turnover to Flat Crank + Chin Hook Rear Stretcher (back mount with hooks) - Sleeper, Reverse Lever, Crossface Chickenwing
And I'd recommend working on sweeps and standups more from Bottom Body Scissors and Single Leg Scissors (Guard and Half Guard)
